Hello! I’m Rachael

I am a counsellor in Wellington, Somerset. I work with adults, children and young people in a variety of ways and settings depending on individual needs. I hold a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and as an integrative counsellor, I use a combination of psychological approaches to support my clients, including psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural therapy.

I provide counselling to adults and children, drawing on a variety of methods such as talking, listening and walking, as well as using creative techniques, or any means that helps the client to open up and feel able to embrace the process. It can feel daunting at first but rest assured my aim is to always make the environment as comfortable and safe as possible for you.

I have experience working with those who have diagnosed or suspected autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and have undertaken additional training so I can engage and communicate more effectively with clients who have these additional requirements.

Carrying around the heavy weight of many different emotions can be exhausting, especially if they are negative and affecting your ability to move forward in life. With so much focus on physical health, mental health can get forgotten and suffer as a result. However, I can work with you to develop a good understanding of coping strategies, which you can then use as and when you need them.

Working creatively with clients is a key therapeutic focus of mine as I find that it can open new avenues of discussion. This can be especially true when supporting children and young people. Therefore, I always have colouring, figurines and the sand tray available to help clients explore and work through their feelings and emotions, using role play to understand their place in the world. I also work counsellor in primary schools to support children in Years 5 and 6 and have previously worked for a children and young person’s charity.

I am proud to be a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics. I am also DBS checked.
